About

Hidden Cities is a project created through the NYCity News Service, a student-powered service at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism. The site aims to shed light on unknown corners of New York City. From spiritual groups, to beloved pastimes, to creative ways of making a buck, Hidden Cities serves as a mirror for the undercovered and lesser known communities to see themselves represented in the fabric of our city. It is also a guide for people interested in learning more about the different cultures that make up the metropolis.

Originating from a class project, a dozen student journalists from the school’s Editing the News class have worked with students to showcase their reporting skills on diverse communities throughout the boroughs.

These uncharted stories are told through original photos, video and even some Spanish-language writing.
