VIDEO: Transgender worshippers are changing gender norms at Jewish synagogues
New York City’s synagogues normally have strict gender-based roles. New groups of trans worshippers are breaking down those barriers.

Congregation Beit Simchat Torah (CBST) is a synagogue in Midtown Manhattan that welcomes the LGBTQ community and “rejoices in diversity, denounces social injustice wherever it exists and strives for human rights for all people.” CBST held a convening for trans and non-binary Jews which provided a space for prayer, education and reflection. This video provides more insight into this subcommunity of New Yorkers.
